On Saturday, October 23rd, Meadowvale Toastmasters took extra steps (over 10,000 steps) to take their table-topics to the top level. Twenty-five participants including Meadowvale Toastmasters and one member from Sheridan Park and Port Credit Toastmasters met at Riverwood Conservancy in Mississauga for a hike.

Members who had joined during the Covid lock-down were excited to meet everyone in-person. Even though we have cameras on for our Zoom meetings, online calls are just not the same as in-person interactions!

During the hike, participants were encouraged to chat with various people. We walked along the Credit River and enjoyed the fall leaves. Even though the salmon run season has ended, we were hopeful we might see some in our adventures. Like the fishermen we had no luck in spotting any salmon.

The group paused for table-topics at a cluster of picnic tables near Erin Mills Conservation area. Sharon D’Souza, our past president and Area Director for C-43 started off our table-topic continuous thread by jumping up on a picnic table (top level 🙂 ) . All participants jumped in with their piece of the story to the delights of laughter and fun by everyone.

Standing on top of a picnic table was the closest anyone has had to being on stage in 1.5 years! With no microphones, we had to project our voices and demonstrate our vocal variety with the audience. Our table-topic was “Our Adventure” and the discussion included everything from Paris to Hulk Hogan, a wedding and of course food!

The fun extended throughout the day with participants posting pictures and videos of our 2 hour adventure on the Meadowvale Toastmasters Whats App group.
